Two Class of 2018 prospects eliminate Syracuse basketball from recruitment

One expected, one unexpected.

Two Class of 2018 prospects eliminated Syracuse from their respective recruitments on Monday evening.

Five-star forward Naz Reid of Roselle Catholic (NJ) tweeted out his Top 10 from his private Twitter account.

Pat Lawless tweeted out, on his public account, the final 10 schools.

Mike Hopkins was Reid’s primary recruiter over the past few years. Every time Hop was in New Jersey he would stop over at Roselle Catholic to see Reid.

It’s clear Syracuse couldn’t continue the success that Hopkins was having with Reid once he departed for Washington.

The other Class of 2018 prospect to eliminate the Orange on Monday was Jahvon Quinerly, a Top 5 point guard in the class.

He’s down to Arizona, Seton Hall, Stanford, Kansas, Villanova, Virginia and UCLA, according to his Twitter page.

This doesn’t come to much surprise, as Syracuse never expressed the amount of interest to make Quinerly a priority.

Quinerly is a Hudson Catholic (NJ) product, and did have a Syracuse offer. He told Pat Lawless, "I picked these seven because me and my family felt very comfortable with each of the programs and everything they have to offer.”

Just last week, five-star prospect Cam Reddish eliminated the Orange from his list of schools. Less than a year ago, Syracuse was in Reddish’s Top 5.
