East Carolina transfer Eliijah Hughes will transfer to Syracuse, a team source confirmed to TNIAAM after Hughes tweeted three orange emojis. Scout’s Mike McAllister was the first to report the news.

Hughes has cancelled his Iona visit, which was scheduled for Saturday.

Adrian Autry was a big reason on why Hughes chose Syracuse, he said. The two have a close relationship, and his sit-down with Jim Boeheim sold him on the school, he said.

It was a typical visit — Hughes spent a lot of time with the coaches, he saw the facilities, walked the campus and had dinner.

TNIAAM was first to report on Wednesday evening that Syracuse had extended a scholarship offer to Hughes. It was not long after that Hughes had made up his mind that he would be transferring to Central New York.

Hughes a 6-foot-6 guard with great length. He likes getting into the lane, but has been described as a player who makes everyone around him better. He’s a very good athlete, plays good defense and is an outstanding kid on and off the court, a team source said.

Hughes will be forced to sit out the 2017-18 season before having three years of eligibility remaining.

Syracuse now has two scholarships remaining for next year’s team.
