Before the Syracuse Orange take the field on Thursday in the ACC Tournament, the softball team does get some great news.

Sydney O’Hara has been named a top-10 finalist by USA Softball for the Player of the Year award. She’s one of three ACC players to make the list, along with Florida State’s Jessica Burroughs and Jessica Warren.

O’Hara, a senior, has had a record-setting campaign for the Orange this year. She currently leads the nation with a .480 batting average and .629 on-base percentage. She’s hit nine home runs, accounted for 42 RBIs and also scored 37 runs. As a pitcher, she’s assembled a 9-3 record, along with six saves and a 1.81 ERA. She also averages 12.6 strikeouts per seven innings (second in the country).

Back in March, O’Hara was named the ESPNW player of the week for her four-home run performance in a single game.

The top three finalists will be announced on May 24, and the winner will be revealed on May 30.
