Former Syracuse WR/PR Brisly Estime signs with the New York Jets as an UFA

Looks like Estime will be staying in-state.

Former Syracuse wide receiver and punt return Brisly Estime has signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent, his agent Brett Tessler announced on Twitter. Estime’s signing came just minutes after the 2017 NFL Draft concluded.

Estime met with the Jets after his Syracuse’s Pro Day in March. He also had an individual workout scheduled with Gang Green get postponed due to a storm. While it’s unclear if that workout ever took place, the Jets clearly remained interested in the 5-foot-9, 183-pound receiver and return specialist.

Estime finished his Syracuse career as a two-time All-ACC performer as a returner and set the ACC career punt return record with an average of 18 yards per return. The small but quick receiver ran a 4.49-second 40-yard dash at Syracuse’s Pro Day (per NFL Draft Scout).

The Jets averaged just 5.5 yards on punt returns and 21.9 yards on kickoff returns last season.

While Estime figures to primarily work as a returner, he also had his best season as a receiver last year, catching 48 passes for 518 yards and three touchdowns. He is the only receiver in Syracuse history with two touchdown receptions of at least 80 yards.

Shortly after the news broke, Estime’s former coach Dino Babers congratulated him on his signing.
