Syracuse basketball in running for elite 2017 point guard Tremont Waters

A decision is expected soon.

Class of 2017 point guard Tremont Waters received his official release last week from Georgetown and reopened his recruitment.

On Wednesday, Waters told Jim Fuller of the New Haven Register that Syracuse, along with Kansas, UConn and Creighton, was actively recruiting him.

Syracuse has three open scholarships for next season and is in need for more point guard depth.

As of right now, only rising junior Frank Howard and incoming freshman Howard Washington are the projected point guard on next year’s roster. That’s not the say the two can’t handle the minutes, but if an injury occurs or eligibility issues, SU will need more depth.

“I’m not going to put a timeframe on [my recruitment],” Waters told Fuller. “Just as soon as possible.”

There are conflicting reports with Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv, who tweeted earlier today that Syracuse wasn’t a team involved with Waters. Full quoted Waters directly saying SU is involved.

Syracuse is also involved with Eric Ayala, who is a Class of 2018 prospect that SU is trying to lure to 2017, and Jordan Tucker, who took an official visit to SU this past weekend.
