Back in 2014, when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and ACC first set dates for their annual football scheduling arrangement, the Syracuse Orange were set to travel to South Bend in September of 2018.
Looks like that’s no longer the case, per Notre Dame’s schedule release today.
The Orange now visit Notre Dame on November 17, which is the second-to-last weekend of the season. Syracuse traditionally plays Boston College on the final weekend since joining the ACC, though they did not in 2016. If the typical weekend held, that would mean SU would play its final two games on the road in 2018 (at Notre Dame, then at BC).
Syracuse hasn’t played at South Bend since the famed 24-23 Greg Robinson upset in 2008, one of GERG’s last two games as head coach. Since then, the Orange have lost to Notre Dame twice at MetLife Stadium — 50-33 in 2016, and 31-15 in 2014. SU is 3-5 all-time vs. the Irish.
In the original release, Notre Dame’s game at Wake Forest was set for November 17. That has been moved to September 22, which was the original date Syracuse’s game was set for.
This is one of just two Orange football games with a confirmed date so far in 2018. Syracuse hosts UConn on September 29. They’re also rumored to host Wagner, though neither that opponent nor the date, have been confirmed by SU Athletics.
