BREAKING: 2017 point guard Howard Washington commits to Syracuse

The Orange now has their third commitment in the 2017 class.

USA Today

Class of 2017 point guard Howard Washington has committed to Syracuse.

He announced the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

Washington is SU’s third Class of 2017 commit along with Oshae Brissett and Bourama Sidibe.

Washington received a formal scholarship offer from the coaching staff on March 11, which was first reported by Adam Zagoria.

Washington is originally from Canisius, but transferred to Montverde Academy (Fl.) after his sophomore year at Canisius High School. He played two seasons at the national powerhouse before reclassifying to 2017 and transferring to Athlete Institute for a post-grad year at AI.

He’s very close friends with 2017 signee Oshae Brissett, as the two play together at AI in Canada.

The 6-foot-3 point guard has six triple-doubles this season.

The Orange, who is still looking to add depth to the point guard position, is still recruiting Eric Ayala and could potentially go after Tremont Waters, who is trying to finalize his release from Georgetown.

This is a big get for the Orange. With John Gillon graduating, the only point guard projected to be on next year’s roster is Frank Howard.

Washington resembles Tyler Ennis is many ways, but is a better shooter from deep coming out of high school than Ennis was. Both have a pass-first mentality, and Howard, like Tyler, has the tools to be extremely efficient at Syracuse.
