After a stressful week of bubble watching and hoping for fellow bubble teams to fall, the Syracuse Orange finally found out its fate. As Syracuse was relegated to the sidelines after losing to Miami, other bubble teams had the opportunity to play themselves into the NCAA Tournament.
As it turns out, the NCAA Selection Committee decided to leave Syracuse out of the field based on its résumé. As discussed, it’s very clear why Syracuse wasn’t selected. In the end, the RPI ranking of 84 was too low and a 2-11 record away from the Carrier Dome was too faulty to balance out its six top 50 RPI wins.
Syracuse is likely to be a No. 1 seed in the NIT so more home games are to follow. We’ll have more on this as it develops.
