Jim Boeheim has made his college decision. No, not that Jim Boeheim. His son, Jimmy Boeheim.
Excited to announce that I have committed to play basketball at Cornell University #gobigred
— Jimmy Boeheim (@jimmyb_23) March 1, 2017
The younger Boeheim has been a standout in high school, and has been fielding mid-major offers throughout his senior year. Certainly, he could’ve walked on at SU (we could certainly use the help for 2017), but at Cornell, he’ll get a real opportunity to contribute at the college level.
As Matt Park also points out, it’s almost guaranteed his new team, the Cornell Big Red, face off with his famous father at the Carrier Dome next season.
Syracuse owns a 91-31 advantage over Cornell in the all-time series, which has been played sporadically since 1901. The two teams have met for four consecutive seasons now, and eight of the last 10. Cornell hasn’t beaten SU since 1968, a string of 37 straight wins for the Orange.
Congrats to Jimmy, and hope to see him suit up for the Big Red in what could be a special matchup between father and son next season.
