Syracuse women’s basketball earns sixth seed in ACC Tournament

The Orange’s road to the NCAA Tournament begins with a trip to South Carolina.

After finishing off the Pittsburgh Panthers on Sunday, the Syracuse Orange finished the ACC regular season 11-5, sixth in the conference.

As a result, they’ll be waiting to play until the second round of this week’s ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 2 in Conway, S.C.

The Orange women will face the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between 14-seed North Carolina and 11-seed Pittsburgh. SU is 3-0 against both teams this season, winning every game by at least 16 points.

Should Syracuse win that matchup, they’ll face third-seed Duke in the quarterfinals. SU lost 72-55 to the Blue Devils a couple weeks back.

Last year, Syracuse was the third seed in the tournament, and upset Louisville in the semifinals en route to the championship game (a loss to Notre Dame). While the Orange are well situated in the NCAA Tournament field already, they’ll likely need a win or two if they have a real chance to earn home court advantage again.

You can catch the early ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament action on RSN, before things move to ESPN2 (and ESPNU) starting in the semifinals.
