Syracuse women's lacrosse picked to finish second in ACC Poll

The Orange have been named as the runner-up in the ACC women's lacrosse coaches poll.

The Syracuse Orange women’s lacrosse team has been voted as the runner-up in the Atlantic Coast Conference this year. In the annual coaches poll, No. 5 Syracuse received 52 points, including one first-place vote.

Unsurprisingly the preseason favorite is defending ACC and NCAA champion North Carolina, who were picked to finish first by the seven other coaches in the conference and totaling 63 points.

2017 ACC Women's Lacrosse Coaches Poll:

Rank Team Points
1 North Carolina 63 (7)
2 Syracuse 52 (1)
3 Notre Dame 50
4 Duke 37
T5 Boston College 29
T5 Virginia 29
7 Louisville 20
8 Virginia Tech 8

The Orange also have two players named to the Preseason All-ACC team: senior defender Kaeli O’Connor and junior attacker Riley Donahue.

Last year SU finished the season with a 19-6 (5-2 ACC) record. Syracuse fell to the Tar Heels 15-14 in overtime.

Syracuse then went on to earn the fourth seed in the NCAA tournament where they advanced to the Final Four before losing to Maryland 19-9. Last year marked the fifth consecutive season in which the Orange have made it to the Final Four.

Syracuse will get to ACC action right away as they open up their season on Feb. 11 against Boston College at noon in the Carrier Dome.
