With National Signing Day all wrapped up, the Syracuse Orange are moving on... to preferred walk-on season.
SU has added quite a few preferred walk-ons in recent years, with some (like Zack Mahoney) eventually earning scholarships. The latest to receive the designation: safety Kevin Nusdeo.
Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey was first to report the news of the Woodbridge, Conn. product’s commitment to SU. He’s 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, and while he didn’t receive any scholarship offers at the DI level, North Carolina and UConn were also interested in him as a preferred walk-on.
He visited Syracuse on Wednesday and was sold on joining the Orange by Nick Monroe and Asil Mulbah.
Adding Nusdeo is a quality depth move for SU, as it’s a position of need and one that will be young once again in 2017. He’s the third preferred walk-on added for 2017, along with (Holy Cross transfer) Jesse Conners and California O-lineman Austin Chandler.
Along with the preferred walk-on adds, SU still has five scholarship spots as well. We’ll see if those spots eventually get filled, either from outside or within the program.
