Many believed when the 2017 NBA All-Star Game rosters were announced, New York Knicks (and former Syracuse Orange) forward Carmelo Anthony was snubbed.
It’s a popularity contest, which further proves the point. Melo deserves to be in this game year-in and year-out, especially with the numbers he consistently puts up (yes, even considering some decline this season).
Unfortunately for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love, who underwent knee surgery earlier this week, Carmelo will take his roster spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star team.
Well deserved.
Anthony is averaging 23.2 points per game this season and is shooting over 36 percent from 3-point range. The Knicks, on the other hand, are a total mess as we all saw with the Charles Oakley incident last week. But Melo continues to do what he does best on the floor, and that’s score at will.
This will be Anthony’s 11th All-Star Game appearance, which is most in Syracuse basketball history.
Dave Bing, who played in the NBA from 1967-1977, is second in program history with seven appearances.
Carmelo was the only Syracuse alum selected to this year’s All-Star Game, which will take place in New Orleans on February 19.
