Syracuse vs. Louisville: TNIAAM Predictions & Poll

Will the Orange bounce back?

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange (16-10, 8-5) had its five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday at the hands of the Pittsburgh Panthers. Louisville (20-5, 8-4), ranked No. 8 in the country, is coming off of a five-point victory over Miami on Saturday.

What’s going to happen when the Orange and the Cardinals face off at 7 p.m. ET on Monday? The TNIAAM staff takes some guesses:

Kevin Wall

Syracuse 64, Louisville 62

After the loss to Pitt on Saturday, I think Syracuse comes out with a more focused effort on the glass against the Cardinals. Avoiding turnovers against the Louisville pressure will be key. The Cardinals don't rack up a lot of assists, so the Orange zone can force them to do more passing than they usually do, which can lead to steals and transition points. Anything that Syracuse can do before the Cardinals can set-up their suffocating defense will be important. In the end, I think White and Lydon make enough shots to give Syracuse another home upset win.

James Szuba

After a rather forgettable performance against Pitt on Saturday, I'm picking Syracuse to bounce back at home against Louisville. Louisville isn't a great offensive team and SU is undefeated at home in ACC play. If Tyus Battle is healthy I like Syracuse to get another marquee victory against a top-5 Ken Pom team, but it will have to execute against a very good defensive squad. The Orange seem to respond with its back against the wall.

I don't know why I'm picking Syracuse, but I am. Syracuse has its back against the wall, as James said, and they've responded to that all season. After the loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday, this game against one of the top teams in the country almost becomes a must-win. I don't know how Tyus Battle will be feeling and I don't know if Tyler Lydon will take more than seven shots. But I'll take Syracuse. I'm no #disloyalidiot.

Andrew Godnick

Syracuse 81, Louisville 80

This game will tell it all. Coming off a more than disappointing loss the Orange are looking for one more resume building win. The Orange are still waiting for Lydon's star game, and a game against a top 10 team sounds fitting. This will need to be a complete performance from the top down for the Orange to come out on top. This will be down to the wire, and another buzzer beater will decide it-this time it'll be Lydon's turn.

John Cassillo

Louisville 73, Syracuse 70

Louisville's better than what they've shown in the past two games (huge loss to UVA and a five-point win vs. Miami). But Syracuse is better than Saturday's loss to Pitt, too. Where the Orange have potential to slip up on Monday night, however, is the same place they faltered against the Panthers: rebounding. The Cardinals average 40 boards per game, with 6.3 per game each going to both Jaylen Johnson and Mangok Mathiang. It's hard to believe SU has the ability to keep up on the glass, which will be their ultimate undoing late.
