The 20th-ranked Syracuse Orange women’s basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Friday evening against No. 14 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Duke (21-4) got off to a hot start and took a 24-11 lead into the second quarter.

“It was a tough game tonight,” Coach Q said afterwards. “They came out and they played well. So, I give them credit.”

Syracuse’s Alexis Peterson, Briana Day and Brittney Sykes all scored in double-figures for the fourth straight game. Peterson had a team-high 19 points, while Day and Sykes each added 11.

Out of the nine SU women to play, seven scored. The Orange went just 10-for-37 from behind-the-arc, and shot 25 percent from the field.

Syracuse scored just 24 first-half points, while the Blue Devils had that after just the first quarter.

Duke shot 50 percent from the floor, and attempted just 13 3-pointers. Junior Rebecca Greenway recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Orange trailed 40-24 at halftime, and lost by a final score of 72-55.

Syracuse (17-8, 8-4) hosts North Carolina on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
