After Syracuse was able to sign all 22 members of its recruiting class, we had already graded SU’s National Signing Day performance as a B+, but we may now have to bump that grade up to an A-, as just hours following Syracuse coach Dino Babers’ press conference, JUCO transfer Mykelti Williams announced he signed with Syracuse on Wednesday (a move John and I said was a strong possibility in our roundtable recap).

Player Breakdown:

Williams is a Class of 2015 safety who was an All-American and originally signed with Notre Dame out of high school. After failing to receive any playing time his freshman year, Williams left the Irish to attend Iowa Western Community College, where in 12 games played Williams racked up 93 tackles, three sacks and three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

Williams visited Syracuse this past weekend, according to Syracuse.com. In his senior year at Warren Central High School, Williams totaled 85 tackles, seven interceptions and a fumble recovery for a touchdown and was named an All-USA Indiana Football Team First-Team defensive back, according to 247Sports. At the time, Rivals rated him as the No. 16 safety in the Class of 2015. However, 247Sports now rates him as just the NO. 8 safety in the JUCO Class of 2017. Ifeatu Melifonwu is the only other safety in Syracuse’s 2017 recruiting class.
