The Syracuse Orange football program’s class of 2017 is finally signing on the dotted line. National Signing Day will welcome plenty of new players to the SU family, and we’re providing profiles for each and every commitment at TNIAAM. The latest signee is standout quarterback Tommy DeVito, who faxed in his signed National Letter of Intent before his scheduled announcement on ESPN later today.

Other Offers: DeVito had early interest from Maryland, Boston College, Wake Forest and Rutgers. After committing to Syracuse, he also received offers from Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Washington State. He said thanks but no thanks to the latter three with little-to-no hesitation (that we know of).

Player Breakdown: Tommy’s arriving to compete for the starting job at Syracuse, though it’s likely that will wait at least another season. As we saw with even an experienced college quarterback like Eric Dungey, Dino Babers’s system does take a little time to get a handle on. If DeVito uses the 2017 to redshirt, learn the offense and do some work in a college weight room, it might be the best result for both him and the program.
Still, you have to like what the pro-style QB brings to the table. He puts a lot of zip on the football, and can make some impressive throws both within and outside the pocket. He has the right amount of confidence too, which is key to running any offense, but especially Babers’s. Dungey’s your starter, but DeVito will get every opportunity to earn this job come summer.
