More honors for the Syracuse Orange football program today, as the Associated Press has revealed its All-ACC team, as decided by a panel of 14 voters (covering the 14 football schools). For those curious, Syracuse.com’s Nate Mink is SU’s representative.
Senior wide receiver Steve Ishmael was named to the first team, while fellow senior Parris Bennett made the team as a second-team linebacker. Ishmael was one of seven players to be a unanimous first-team selection.
Ishmael collected a school-record 105 catches for 1,347 (second-best in school history), with seven touchdowns. He had seven 100-yard games and six games of 11 or more receptions this year. Ishmael leaves Syracuse with the all-time best receiving yardage mark in school history (2,891) and the second-most receptions of any player at SU.
Bennett had 115 tackles in his final season, which was the fourth-best total in the ACC. It’s the second straight year he’s managed 110 or more tackles. He also had two sacks this season.
Ishmael was also named an SB Nation All-American earlier on Tuesday.
Congrats to both Steve and Parris for the latest honors. The AP’s national All-American teams should be released this week (I think?) as well, so we should be seeing Ishmael’s name at least one more time on a list of honors.
