The No. 23 Syracuse Orange opened 2017-18 ACC play with a loss on Thursday. ‘Cuse fell to No. 2 Notre Dame 87-72 at Purcell Pavilion at Notre Dame. This is the Orange’s second loss in as many tries versus ranked opponents this season (the other being last week vs. Mississippi State). Syracuse drops to 12-2 (0-1 ACC) on the year.

Syracuse was out-shot by Notre Dame by a significant margin -- 47.1% compared to just 40.6% from the field. Notre Dame was also efficient from beyond the three-point arc, making 7-of-14 shots from that range.
The Orange only saw two scorers net double-figures. Tiana Mangakahia led the team with 26 points on 10-of-21 shooting and Miranda Drummond added 15 points to the scoring effort. Mangakahia turned in nine rebounds and eight assists in a team-high 39 minutes, as well.
Jessica Shepard and Jackie Young led Notre Dame with 24 and 23 points, respectively.
What’s Next?
Syracuse (12-2, 0-1) will travel to Charlottesville, VA to face Virginia in a New Year’s Eve game. The Orange and Cavaliers tip off at 2:00 p.m. Cuse does not have another home game until January 4, when they host conference foe Georgia Tech.
