The Syracuse Orange will be adding new football recruits throughout the early signing period, this Wednesday through Friday. As each player signs, we’ll be posting profiles here on TNIAAM. Next up? Texas quarterback Chance Amie, who flipped from Houston to Syracuse at his school’s signing day ceremony just minutes ago.
Twitterfeed: @ChanceAmie2018
Hometown: Tyler, Tex.
Previous School: Robert E. Lee
Position: Quarterback
Stats: 6’3”, 191 pounds
Commitment Date: Today!
Ratings: Three stars from everyone, which he surely appreciates.
Other Offers: Houston, Virginia, Iowa State, North Carolina, Rutgers, UCF (and a whole bunch of Group of Five teams).
Dino’s projected nickname: “Amie and Fire!”
Highlights:
Player Outlook: We’d thought we were out of the running on Amie when he chose the Cougars over Syracuse back in June. But he took an official visit to SU just a week ago and apparently that was enough to convince the dual-threat passer to join the class of 2018.
While he’s certainly mobile, Amie’s biggest asset is probably his arm strength -- which makes sense for what Dino Babers prefers for this offense. He’ll have some stiff competition in the coming seasons for playing time with both Tommy DeVito and Rex Culpepper both on the roster after 2018. But the addition is a welcome one for this class, which had previously lacked a QB commit.
