As the morning was unfolding for the Syracuse Orange’s 2018 recruiting class, you were probably pretty pleased with how things were going. Over half of the names were signed within a few hours and it seemed like things were going to be on the less stressful side.
Of course, you (and we) were wrong...

While this class has been an impressive group of players — some with four-star ratings -- that momentum seemed to start with center Tyrone Sampson Jr., the Detroit product who was about as enthusiastic as one could get about SU. Until less than an hour ago, his Twitter profile had indicated he’d be a member of this class.
Things seemed fine during his official visit at Syracuse a few weeks ago as well, and his tweet about enrolling early had been pinned to his profile for months.
This is certainly a blow to the recruiting class SU has been pulling together, though it’s not the end of the world. No matter what happened to change Sampson’s mind about the Orange, it’s his decision to make after all. From the sound of the note above, it seems unlikely he’ll be joining Syracuse on National Signing Day in February now.
It should go without saying, don’t tweet anything at Tyrone about his decision. And let’s stay excited about the rest of the (still strong) class we have in the door right now.
