Syracuse’s Steve Ishmael named ACC receiver of the week

A quality honor to add to the list of them this year.

Since conference play got started, the Syracuse Orange have seemingly been fixtures on the ACC Player of the Week lists. Week 10 was no different for SU, despite the 27-24 loss to the Florida State Seminoles.

Steve Ishmael was honored as the conference’s receiver of the week after catching 12 passes for 143 yards and a long touchdown. The 143 yards were a single-game career-high for Ish, while the 12 catches made for his fourth double-digit receptions game this year. He’s currently second in the country with 78 grabs, and his 986 yards are quickly climbing up the Orange single-season record list too.

Ishmael’s touchdown was a critical part of SU’s comeback effort against Florida State, helping close the gap to a single touchdown in the first half. SU would get as close as three points following an Eric Dungey TD late in the fourth quarter.

As a senior, Ishmael currently leads the ACC in receptions and yards. He’s 23rd in yards per catch (12.6) and is tied for sixth in touchdown catches with five. Ishmael will be angling for all-conference and potential All-American honors this year given his huge outputs. He’d be the second consecutive Orange pass-catcher to receive both following Amba Etta-Tawo’s efforts last season.

Congrats, Steve!
