Syracuse field hockey earns 10th straight NCAA Tournament bid

Despite some struggles in ACC play, they’re back in the field.

The Syracuse Orange field hockey team earned an invite to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday as an at-large team. Despite a tough stretch in conference play at 2-4, Syracuse was still able to make the field on a 12-6 overall record. It’s their 10th consecutive trip.

The Orange will open up the tournament at Michigan on November 11. A victory there would put them up against either Louisville or Northwestern in the second round. The winner of that matchup would head to the Final Four. SU’s regular season ended with a 3-2 loss to Louisville in the ACC Tournament.

This year’s field features UConn as the top seed overall, and Duke as the No. 2. In total, six ACC squads made the field out of 18 programs.

Despite a 7-0 start, this year’s ACC slate proved to be even tougher than normal for Syracuse, which makes sense given how many teams made the NCAAs. Still, even with a lackluster conference record, the Orange possess a pretty strong resume overall. They’re 2-5 against the field, including a win over second-seeded Duke.

Best of luck to the team in Ann Arbor! We’ll be following along here as the Orange try to return to the Final Four.
