The Syracuse Orange (4-4, 2-2) are back in action this weekend, taking on the Florida State Seminoles (2-5, 2-4) down in Tallahassee. While Syracuse could really use a win here for the sake of bowl hopes, that actually goes double for FSU, which needs to win out (or add ULM back to the schedule) to make it back to the postseason. Strange times we’re living in...
The Orange and Seminoles will kick off at 12:20 p.m. ET on the ACC Network (check your local affiliate) or ACC Network Extra where not televised.
So what does the TNIAAM staff think will happen in this game?
Florida State 27, Syracuse 24
I don't think Florida State is very good, but Syracuse hasn't been able to avoid early mistakes on the road so far. While Syracuse is definitely good enough to win, I think Florida State has enough talent and the home field advantage to take advantage of enough wiggle room given. With a week of rest, any little bit of early rust will give the Seminoles the win even with the now trademarked Orange late comeback.
Florida State 23, Syracuse 20
At this point in the season, I'm only certain of a couple of things: 1) the Syracuse defense is going to be strong on 3rd downs and 2) the Orange offense will be inconsistent. I'd feel better about this game had FSU not been blown out by BC last week and if everyone wasn't thinking this was going to be a Syracuse win. Maybe I've just been watching too many games the last 27 years, but this just feels like the game that halts the good vibes around the program. Hopefully it's Cole Murphy and not Aguayo Kicker III hitting the late fourth quarter game-winner on Saturday
Syracuse 27, Florida State 20
The return of Kendall Coleman bolsters the defensive line, but overall it comes down to quarterback play. Eric Dungey simply makes more plays than James Blackman as the Orange score a late touchdown to move closer to bowl eligibility.
Syracuse 31, Florida State 21
The Orange finally win a not close game against a good opponent. They come out blazing after the week off. To start things off SU will be rattled in Tallahassee, but they'll come back into their own and not turn the ball over. FSU is good, there's no doubt about it. But Babers is going to have this team ready and Dungey is going to have a day. Expect Strickland to run for 100+ again.
Syracuse 23, Florida State 17
FSU’s down, but there’s still plenty of talent on that roster and Syracuse is still prone to making enough mistakes to keep games closer than they need to be. The Orange get off to a fast start, then take on some water in the second quarter. Eric Dungey helps right the ship in the third, though not without the Seminoles pressing throughout the second half. Luckily, the SU defense shuts down James Blackman late to help seal the win.
Now it’s your turn...
