Black Friday was fairly bright for the Syracuse Orange Women’s basketball team, as they moved to a perfect 5-0 on the season. Their fifth win came in the second of three games in Washington, D.C. as part of the Paradise Jam. The Orange beat Vanderbilt, 84-78, and were headlined once again by a superb performance from point guard Tiana Mangakahia.
Mangakahia entered Friday’s contest averaging 11.0 assists per game, a figure that led the nation by a fair margin of 1.6 assists per game. She contributed another double-double, tallying 11 points and a Syracuse program-record 17 assists in 35 minutes of action.
The Orange scoring was headlined by Miranda Drummond, who posted 25 points on 10-17 shooting. Amaya Finklea-Guity also contributed 11 points in 19 minutes for Syracuse.
What’s Next
The undefeated Orange will conclude their stay in Washington, D.C. with a game versus George Washington (3-3) - their final at the Paradise Jam. The Orange will return home for a clash with Big Ten opponent Northwestern as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Thursday November 30.
