Youth and some inexperience were clicking Friday afternoon, as the Syracuse Orange defeated the Morgan State Bears in matinee action, 95-68 at the Carrier Dome. The Orange were headlined by forward Digna Strautmane’s double-double effort as she posted 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Syracuse won its first contest by using efficiency and by dominating the rebound and turnover margins. The Orange out-rebounded Morgan State, 54-38, and they were +18 in the turnover margin.
All five of Syracuse’s double-digit scorers made their Orange debuts on Friday. To add to Strautmane’s efforts, starters Miranda Drummond tallied 15 points and Amaya Finklea-Guity scored 12. The ‘Cuse bench was also contributing, as Isis Young (13) and Jasmine Nwajei (11) also posted double digits.
Tiana Mangakahia dished out 10 assists in her Orange debut, as well.
What’s Next
the 1-0 Orange will enjoy a six-day layoff as they welcome the 1-0 Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks to The Dome on Thursday.
