Miami rises to top 10 in rankings, while Louisville drops out

Not as many Orange opponents are ranked as there used to be...

NCAA Football: Miami at Florida State Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

At the season’s midway point, the Syracuse Orange aren’t in the polls, but you’ll find some future opponents there.

This week saw plenty of movement for both future and past Orange foes, and one in particular vaulted themselves into the top 10. Here’s a quick look at which teams from SU’s schedule are ranked this week.

(AP/Coaches)

No. 2/No. 2 Clemson Tigers

Clemson did what it needed to against Wake Forest, though the Deacons did stick around for awhile. QB Kelly Bryant was also injured, which won’t stop the Tigers from being ranked No.2, but does arrive on our radars for this Friday’s matchup at the Dome.

No. 11/No. 10 Miami Hurricanes

Coaches think Miami’s a top 10 team, even if the media doesn’t (by one spot). Typically, a win down in Tallahassee would be worth a bigger bump, but voters appear conflicted following a 24-20 Hurricanes win vs. FSU. They have one more game (vs. Georgia Tech) before hosting Syracuse.

No. 20/20 N.C. State Wolfpack

State managed their third straight ACC victory after upsetting Louisville last Thursday. The Pack are now the likely second place team in the Atlantic and are eyeing an early November matchup with Clemson for a whole lot more.

Also receiving votes: Louisville, LSU and Wake Forest all received votes, with the Cardinals sitting just outside both polls. The Cardinals should be right back in the top 25 at some point very soon. They could be favored in every game remaining on the schedule.
