First Meeting: SNHU probably aired their online college commercial during a Syracuse game once.

Last Meeting: See above.

Head Coaches: SU: Jim Boeheim (42nd year, 1,004-357), SNHU: Stan Spirou (33rd year, 625-329)

Coach Bio: Spirou has coached SNHU to 20 NCAA (Division II) Tournament berths in 32 seasons, including three straight through last year. He’s a bit of a legend in Manchester, N.H. as both a basketball coach and a golfer. Before he took over SNHU, he led Manchester Central High School. He also played for Keene State -- also located in New Hampshire.

Last Year: Southern New Hampshire went 21-9 last year, including a 16-1 record at home. However, the strong play wouldn’t continue through the NCAA Tournament. The Penmen (why?) were upset by Southern Connecticut State in the first round of the DII tourney, 109-98.

Last Game: SNHU fell to Southern Connecticut State, as mentioned above. The game actually took place in Syracuse (at LeMoyne), which should make it a weird “homecoming” for the Penmen. SNHU had three players score 20 or more in that one, but obviously it was the defense that really struggled to get much done.

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds of Timelords": Chris Walters scored 18.1 points per game last year, and he’ll return for 2017-18 as a redshirt senior. The (undersized) small forward scored 20 points or more in four of his last eight games -- including 21 in the finale last year. He shot better than 50 percent from the floor, which is pretty impressive for a wing player.

If Syracuse Wins: National media doesn’t care, and we don’t really care either. It’s a preseason tune-up. But nice to win, I guess.

If Syracuse Loses: National media makes an enormous deal about it despite the game not mattering in the least. We still don’t care.

Fun Fact No. 1: Junior Penmen guard Charlie Russo is originally from Syracuse, having played at Christian Brothers Academy before heading to SNHU.

Fun Fact No. 2: I wasn’t kidding about the online college note above. SNHU commercials are pretty much everywhere. You may even be watching one right now. For a long time I thought it was just a geographic name they used to make it sound like it was more of a physical college. Nope, ends up it’s a physical college. My bad.
