Dino Babers kept it short and sweet after the Syracuse Orange loss to the Miami Hurricanes 27-19.

He showed he was upset about the loss, but defended quarterback Eric Dungey who put up a rough stat line, but showed a lot of heart. He was 13-for-41 passing for just 137 yards.

“The energy we get from him is from the way he competes. Don’t you get energy from the way he competes? When you’re watching him you go... O-M-G. He’s fearless, he’s reckless and we love him.”

When he was asked if he said something to kicker Cole Murphy, Babers took care of it right away:

Cole Murphy! I ain’t never seen nothing like that before, you were outstanding today... Yes, I have.”

Murphy was 4-for-4 in field goal attempts and hit a career long 53-yarder to bring Syracuse within one point in the fourth quarter.

Speaking of fours, Syracuse is now 4-4 with four games left. Babers is confident that his opponents are not too thrilled about it.

“I guarantee you people aren’t excited about playing us. The four teams we have left? I guarantee you they aren’t saying ‘oh goodie we’ve got Syracuse’”

SU is slated for a bye week and then at Florida State, Wake Forest, at Louisville and Boston College to close out the season.

Babers mentioned the biggest difference between 4-4 this year versus last is that “I think the biggest difference is our quarterback is still standing up.”

(Ed. note: Dungey didn’t get injured until game nine last year)
