Syracuse vs. Miami Official TNIAAM Predictions & Poll

We’ve been talking about this game all week, so what’s gong to happen?

NCAA Football: Clemson at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange (4-3, 2-1) suddenly seem very upset-minded to the national college football press -- a fact that should make us both confident and cautious. They’ll put that newfound reputation to the test on Saturday against the No. 8 Miami Hurricanes (5-0, 3-0). A victory for the Orange would be stunning, for different reasons than Friday’s upset was.

Syracuse and Miami will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN (or WatchESPN for those streaming).

So what does the TNIAAM staff think will happen in this game?

Andy Pregler

Syracuse 24, Miami 21

I don’t like being confident in Syracuse Football, but if weather holds and the lack of noted home field advantage keeps things neutral, Miami is looking at being down some serious weapons in a game where ‘Cuse will be able to move and make noise on defense. Much like other Miami games it comes down to the wire, this time the Orange defense gets a much deserved stop to win it.

I'm a little concerned about Dino Babers' comments about depth and injuries. While I'm not sure that Miami's deserving of a top-10 ranking, they head into this game with a lot of confidence while Syracuse has to regain focus after last week's win. This game is likely to be decided by turnovers and special teams, so the Orange will need to play a complete game to bring back an enormous road win.

The Orange have a bit of a let down initially before Dungey brings them back within one score. In the end, Rosier and the Hurricanes are just too much for a second straight top ten upset. The Orange perform well on national TV and show the nation that they're no fluke.

It'll be close, but the 'Canes pull through. Miami has one of the best defensive fronts SU has seen, and if they can get in Dungey's head it'll be a long Saturday afternoon. I think the Orange will keep their momentum from last week but Miami learned a lot from the Clemson game. They'll use that knowledge to prove they are a top ACC team.

Dan Lyons

Miami 34, Syracuse 27

Asking SU to upset back-to-back undefeated Top 10 teams is probably too much, but I fully expect the Orange to play up to its opponent once again, and give the Hurricanes a fight. The weather has me a bit concerned — we saw what happened at Wake Forest last season, though I doubt this will be the same type of storm—as Miami is better built to play a game in the trenches, but if things hold up, Syracuse should be able to move the ball against a Miami defense that projects similarly to NC State's. Ultimately, I'll take a very talented Miami team at home, but another upset is absolutely on the table.

Look, I’d love to say that Syracuse is riding an endless upward trajectory that started with Clemson and ends with us finishing 9-3, but that’s not the world we live in. Progress is rarely linear. And it’s no easy feat to beat two straight top-10 teams. Miami’s defense puts the pressure on Eric Dungey, and the offense isn’t as one-dimensional as Clemson’s. We still make it a game, which is good. The Orange just don’t pull the upset.

Now it’s your turn...
