The Syracuse Orange made great use of the Friday night primetime slot with the upset win over the Clemson Tigers as the college football world was watching. As we’ve been doing each week, we bring you some of the discussion points involving the Orange. So let’s dive into the post-week seven talking points because these should be the most fun we’ve had so far.

  • After holding down the 11th or 12th spot the entire season, it’s a three spot jump for the Orange in this week’s ESPN ACC Power Rankings as they move up to 8th. With next week’s opponent the Miami Hurricanes holding the #2 spot, another upset win would push Syracuse into the top tier of the ACC.
  • Syracuse ranks 44th (#BRAND!) in The All-American weekly rankings, up twenty-one spots from last week and getting some extra love in the process.
  • Bill C’s S&P+ now shows Syracuse at 59th which is up only one from last week. The Orange also earned Bill’s “Team of the Week” honors as he breaks down what made the upset possible. Disregard when I said this last week... “Beating the sixth-ranked Clemson Tigers squad would probably change that in a big way.”
  • Richard Johnson followed up his off-season profile of Dino Babers with some post-victory comments about the win and turning faith into trust.
  • Syracuse jumps up twenty-three spots to 49 in the CBSSports rankings, which puts them ahead of the Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins and some SEC team that thinks they are the real orange.
  • Jeff Sagarin’s weekly rankings has the Orange up seven spots to 61. Sagarin’s numbers have Miami 15th, in case you were wondering.
