As you’re well aware, the Syracuse Orange are hosting the Clemson Tigers on Friday night. Coincidentally, it’s Friday the 13th, which inspires a pretty creepy vibe on its own. But with Dino Babers at the helm and what looks like a new video budget in hand, SU goes all-in on the (Michael Jackson) “Thriller” theme below.
Who knows what the deal is with rights fees and fair use, but it does seem fitting for Babers’s team to feature Vincent Price given the coach’s notable movie buff status. Perhaps Dino’s a big fan of 1950s horror films? It just feels like he has some additional fingerprints on the decision...
The emphasis on a Friday night game under the lights of the Carrier Dome also evokes some memories of what this program once was on Fridays. As you’ll recall, it definitely used to be a thing for the Orange. At one point, Syracuse was winning big games annually on Friday nights under Doug Marrone. The schedule changed and those occurences fell off. But maybe we can channel something like the 2011 West Virginia game again?
You’ll likely recall what I still consider to be one of the program’s best victories of the last decade or so.
This is no bold prediction of an upset. But now I’m excited. And I’ll pay wild sums of money to see Dino Babers do the “Thriller” dance in the locker room after the game, should SU manage to pull off the unthinkable.
