Syracuse in the NFL: Week 5 recap

How’d former Orange players fare this weekend?

Unfortunate news for the Syracuse Orange players in the NFL last week, as the Jacksonville Jaguars released Ryan Nassib. However, the Buffalo Bills signed #SHAMARKO Thomas, so we even back out to six alums total on active rosters. Some of these alumni played more than others did in week five. But nonetheless, we recap all of their performances from this past weekend.

Jay Bromley, DT, New York Giants

TANKAPALOOZA begins! Bromley had one tackle in Sunday’s loss to the Chargers and the Giants fall to 0-5. The former Orange defensive tackle has had opportunities to contribute to this year’s team but not enough to earn more minutes. Maybe if the Giants just give up on the season (it’s coming), that changes.

Riley Dixon, P, Denver Broncos

The Broncos were on bye last week, but Dixon’s numbers have been pretty solid so far. He’s 20th in the league with 44.6 yards per punt, though he’s only put six punts inside the 20 so far. A lot of that is based on Denver having an effective offense, which minimizes opportunities for Riley. When given chances, he’s done a quality weapon in the field position game.

Chandler Jones, LB, Arizona Cardinals

The Cards had a rough day against the Eagles this weekend, but Jones put in a solid afternoon with five tackles and a sack. Jones’s five sacks on the season are tied for sixth in the league. Despite a shaky start for Arizona, Jones has been a bright spot.

Cameron Lynch, LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Lynch hasn’t played in a few weeks, and the Bucs have gone 1-2 in that time. He has one tackle on the season.

Justin Pugh, OG, New York Giants

After a bounceback effort in week four, the Giants’ O-line was back to its struggles against the Chargers. The team allowed five sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss. This will be a pretty tough year for Pugh, whose free agency is looking less lucrative now than it may have before.

Shamarko Thomas, S, Buffalo Bills

Just a few days after signing with the Bills, #SHAMARKO tallied one tackle in the BIlls’ loss to the Bengals. Thomas was signed as a reserve, but you’d figure he gets some more opportunities as he gets more acclimated to the defense.
