Syracuse women’s basketball ranked 24th in latest Coaches Poll

Some up and down weeks have resulted in no change in the polls.

After a week in which the Syracuse Orange women’s basketball team lost to a top-10 Florida State squad and also blew out the 14th-ranked Miami Hurricanes, SU didn’t move in the latest Coaches Poll. They stood pat at 24th for the third straight week.

The up and down nature of Syracuse’s season has made things seem like they’re not moving forward (or back), but the Orange are establishing a decent NCAA Tournament resume for themselves. Though they’ve struggled against top-10ish talents, they’ve managed to beat fringe ranked teams. They’re 0-3 against teams currently ranked in the top 15, but 2-1 vs. squads in the final 10 spots in the polls.

They’ll put that theory to the test once again this coming Sunday, when they head down to Blacksburg, Va. to face No. 19 Virginia Tech.

Overall, the Orange still have three games remaining against ranked squads (in the Coaches Poll). Along with Virginia Tech, they’ll visit 14th-ranked Duke on February 10 and host eighth-ranked Notre Dame on February 19.

SU is currently 14-7 overall and 5-3 in the ACC, putting them two back of conference leader Florida State (currently 7-1 in league play).
