Syracuse Football Recruiting: 3-star RB B.J. Daniels decommits from SU

Wait, it may not be what it looks like.

Well, this is interesting.

Three-star running back B.J. Daniels announced he decommitted from Syracuse on Saturday. reports it was the Orange coaching staff who had decided to move on from Daniels.

Daniels verbally committed to Syracuse in late October. The Palm Bay (Fla.) prospect is rated three stars and the No. 90 running back in the country by 247Sports. Syracuse coach Dino Babers typically favors big power backs and the 6-foot-1, 202-pound Daniels would have appeared to fit that mold.

The three-star running back was scheduled to take an official visit to Syracuse the weekend of Jan. 20th but that visit will no longer take place, reports.

Daniels’ decommitment comes just one day after 3-star wide receiver Josh Palmer decommitted from Syracuse. Palmer was the top-rated wide receiver in SU’s 2017 recruiting class.

Both Palmer (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Daniels (Palm Bay) attend high school in Florida.

In addition to Syracuse, Daniels has received offers from USF, Maryland, Florida Atlantic, and Colorado State, among others. Prior to committing to Syracuse, Daniels told he was deciding between SU and USF.

With Daniels no longer in the picture, Syracuse is down to two running backs in its 2017 class, 3-star prospects Markenzy Pierre and Allen Stritzinger.

SU’s 2017 class as a whole now stands at 20, including four early enrollees. The Orange, however, are expected to add graduate transfer Devin Butler, who is already enrolled at Syracuse for the spring semester.
