Syracuse Orange women’s basketball senior Alexis Peterson has been named to the Wooden Award midseason top 25. The Wooden Award is presented to the best player in college basketball each year and narrows the list of nominees as the season goes on.
Peterson has put on quite a performance so far in 2016-17, leading the Orange in scoring (22.7 points per game), assists (7.5 per) and steals (3.2 per). Her steals and assists numbers are both top-10 in the country.
While SU’s total offense may not be the juggernaut it was for a lot of last season, Peterson’s output has remained at a torrid pace. She’s scored 20 or more points in 12 of the team’s 17 games thus far, and 25 or more in eight of them. Peterson currents sits in sixth place on the Orange’s all-time scoring list and is just 13 points away from taking over the fifth spot.
The 24th-ranked Orange will host 22nd-ranked NC State on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. ET. Peterson and SU are looking for their fourth straight win in conference. The Wolfpack will be looking for its fourth win in five ACC tries, and already possess wins over top-10 teams Notre Dame and Florida State. You can catch the action on ACC Network Extra.
