Thanks to someone being a little trigger happy over at Virginia athletics, we now know when the Syracuse Orange will get their rematch with the Cavaliers this season. Credit Syracuse.com’s Mike Waters for catching the update on VirginiaSports.com before it was pulled down Friday afternoon.
The two ACC foes will meet on Saturday, February 4 at noon on ESPN or ESPN2. Syracuse and Virginia faced off in the Midwest Regional Final last year, a 68-62 comeback victory for the Orange. It was SU’s first victory over the Hoos since the Orange joined the ACC back in 2013. It was also the most important one, since this was the only meeting with a Final Four berth hanging in the balance.
That makes 14 dates confirmed for Syracuse now — all 13 non-conference matchups, plus this in-conference game. While this is months from being decided, SU-UVA would seem like a prime candidate for hosting College Gameday the weekend of February 4, as long as both programs end up ranked as highly as expected.
The full ACC schedule is not out yet, but if Virginia’s athletic department already has it in hand, it’s only a matter of time before it’s released. Back in 2015, we saw the whole thing on September 2, so there’s already a slight delay this time around.
If more games, or the entire schedule, start leaking out, we’ll be sure to post here.
