Syracuse vs. Notre Dame: Depth chart makes no changes, but some exist

Well, this is getting a little pointless...

Syracuse Orange football coach Dino Babers keeps things pretty close to the vest. His playbook, the preseason schemes, player and assistant access -- all of these are or have been closed to an extent since his arrival. We get it, and can appreciate it. Especially when he’s going to give us entertaining “momma bear”-type quotes every week.

You can add depth charts to the list as well, it seems -- or at least, we’ve now 100-percent confirmed this week.

Syracuse.com’s Nate Mink tweeted out this week’s Syracuse depth chart vs. the Notre Dame Fighting Irish below, and yup, it’s exactly the same as last week’s.

We know it won’t be for the game, however. It can’t be, based on the rash of injuries that continue to his this team week after week. It didn’t LOOK like we lost anyone during the UConn game, but nothing’s guaranteed there either. SU also doesn’t have to issue an official injury report for non-conference games (which Notre Dame still counts as).

This isn’t to hammer Babers about something at all. Just pointing out that the names you see above won’t all be on the field. Guys like Kielan Whitner, Kayton Samuels, Cody Conway, Omari Palmer and Jason Emerich were all listed to start in last week’s depth chart. None of them played, though we don’t know the extent of any of their respective ailments either. More to come at some point this week, surely. Even if that ends up being a late confirmation on their status come Saturday morning.
