The Syracuse Orange have been a double-digit underdog already a couple of times this season and they’ll enter their upcoming game as one as well.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been installed as 13-point favorites in the upcoming game against SU at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on Saturday.

The game, which will be played at noon and televised on ESPN, finds both teams at a bit of an interesting crossroads for the rest of the season.

The Irish enter the game at 1-3 with losses to Texas, Michigan State, and Duke. The losses to Texas and Michigan State don’t look quite as impressive as both teams have lost games since. The loss to Duke was especially embarassing for the program and led to Brian Kelly firing his defensive coordinator and saying that all jobs, players and coaches, are on the line from here on out.

Syracuse, meanwhile, is 2-2 and coming off a 31-24 win over UConn. Syracuse has so far beaten the teams they’re supposed to beat and lost to the teams they’re supposed to lose to, though in jarring fashion as the offense attempts to catch up on the new system.

For Syracuse, it’s a chance for Dino Babers to get his first trademark win. No matter what Notre Dame’s record is, a win over the Irish on national television would mean big things for the program, not to mention revise expectations moving forward. Notre Dame’s defense has been pretty porous against passing attacks (87th in pass defense overall) so the opportunity is there.
