We haven’t heard much on the Syracuse Orange football recruiting front of late. And while SU didn’t add any new members of the 2017 class last night, we still received some pretty good news:
I am extremely excited to announce that I have been selected and committed to play in the Under Armour All-American Game! #UAALLAMERICA pic.twitter.com/3qZsPCrpR5

The Orange’s top commit Tommy DeVito will be participating in the 2017 Under Armour All-America Game. For those not familiar with the event, it takes place on January 1, 2017 in Orlando, Fla. and matches up many of the country’s best recruits on ESPN. Among some of the quarterback alums from the game since 2008: E.J. Manuel, Jameis Winston, Devin Gardner, Landry Jones, Chase Rettig, Jeff Driskel and Mike Glennon.

As Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey points out, it’s been a tough start for DeVito at New Jersey’s Don Bosco Prep. His team’s 0-3 on the year so far, and DeVito’s 40-for-66 with 428 passing yards, four TDs and a pick. Not exactly sterling numbers, though nothing to panic about either. We’re all well aware that recruiting can be an inexact science, based on equal parts results and potential. A highly-ranked (varies, depending on the source) pro-style quarterback, DeVito’s received scores of accolades as his star’s continued to rise in the eyes over the past year. It’s unlikely that all of those recruiting folks are wrong — at least based on three games’ worth of results (win-loss results at that).
The full rosters will be revealed over time, so we’ll see who DeVito will be throwing to (and against) soon enough. In the meantime, congrats on the honor, Tommy. Looking forward to watching the game on Jan. 1.
