As the ACC does every Monday, the conference announced its players of the week from this past Saturday’s action. Ends up the Syracuse Orange have a familiar face on the list for week three:

Daivon Ellison, who started at strong safety for the first time in his career, gets the nod for SU after a strong effort against the USF Bulls. Ellison had 11 tackles (eight solo) against South Florida, and also forced a fumble. The 11 tackles are a team-high so far this season.
At first glance, perhaps it’s surprising to see a member of the Orange secondary here given how rough things looked against USF on Saturday in a 45-20 loss. But Ellison did play pretty well in the contest, all things considered. And was one of the only SU defensive players truly able to make stops.
Though Ellison is currently listed second on the strong safety two-deep behind Kielan Whitner, that could already be outdated. Given the level of injuries to Syracuse defensive backs this fall, Ellison will have ample opportunities to continue showcasing his skill set. To receive all-conference honors against a strong USF offense and in a losing effort is no easy feat at all.
Congrats, Daivon. Looking forward to seeing continued improvement throughout the season.
