Syracuse Men’s Soccer: #5 Orange host #15 Boston College in ACC home opener

The Orange split the series last year, but won the one that mattered.

SU Men defeat Dartmouth

The Syracuse Orange (6-0-0) head into the match tonight ranked as high as third in the nation. Riding a six game win streak to start the year, the Orange look to remain perfect on the season, while facing their first ranked squad of the year. The Boston College Eagles (4-1-0) come into Syracuse Soccer Stadium as the #18 squad in the TDS poll.

The Orange and the Eagles met twice last season, once in the regular season as well as a return leg in the NCAA Quarterfinal. BC nipped the first leg in the regular season finale out in Chestnut Hill by a score of 2-1, with the Orange being outplayed and taking a loss into the postseason.

The NCAA quarterfinal got played back home at Syracuse Soccer Stadium and was a hotly contested affair. Syracuse had maintained control through most of the match, but couldn’t net anything despite dominating the stats, until Ben Polk broke through late off of a corner in the 79th minute. The Orange walked away from that victors and on to the College Cup.

This year the Eagles bring a decently potent offense to bear, with nine goals in five games to date. Midfielder Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel and Forward Simon Enstrom lead the attack and have accounted for seven of the nine. At 4-1-0 on the year, the Eagles have a 0.80 goals against average, only giving up 4 on the year.

This is also the official rekindling of the #OrangeEagle Trophy competition for the 2016 school year. As always, Swordsman eloquently lays it all out there in his preview, but we’re looking at grabbing an early six points and never looking back in this competition.

The match kicks off at 7pm tonight up on the Hill. The Orange will be giving out some Thundersticks for those in attendance as well as a chance to win an SU Soccer Jersey.
