Syracuse field hockey still No. 1 and still winning

Another week, another set of wins, another week atop the polls

If Syracuse Orange football has got you down, I know the perfect cure for your losing blues: The No. 1 Syracuse Field Hockey squad.

Last week, the defending national champs ascended back to the top of the NFHCA poll and they proceeded to maintain their rank after winning two games to bring their overall record to 6-0 on the year.

Syracuse has also been ranked within the top four of 15-consecutive polls, the top-10 of 19-consecutive polls and the top-20 of 91-consecutive polls.

The Orange opened the weekend with a 3-1 victory over the No. 18 Boston College Eagles, which also means they picked up some coveted #OrangeEagle points. They followed that up with another 3-1 win over a ranked opponent, this time the No. 14 Stanford Cardinal.

Not only did the team do well but two of it’s players came away with individual honors as well.

Elaine Carey was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week thanks to a breakaway goal in the BC win and the eventual game winner in the Stanford victory. Roos Weers was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week as she led a defense that limited both opponents to a combined 10 shots on goal. Weers also notched an assist and goal for herself.

No rest for the weary in big-time field hockey as the No. 1 Orange now head to Winston-Salem to take on No. 11 Wake Forest.
