Today kicks off a familiar series with a new face. Time to Get To Know Your Orange for the Men’s Soccer team.

Name: Jake Leahy

Position: Goalkeeper

Year: Freshman

Hometown: Brick, N.J.

High School: The Peddie School

Club Team: Match Fit Academy FC

2015 Stats: He’s a freshman, so none for the Syracuse Orange, but he did play well enough last year to earn a “State Star” from TopDrawerSoccer.com, compiled 285 saves through his three years starting for The Peddie School, and garner 2015 All-Mid-Atlantic honors.

2016 Projections: Third/Fourth Keeper. He’s got two guys in Henrick Hilpert and Austin Aviza ahead of him who started for a team that made the College Cup, so it’s an uphill battle.

How'd He Get Here?: Jake ended up on the radar as an attendee of the Syracuse Soccer Camps. He worked with Jukka Masalin and formed a relationship there that led to him signing with the Orange for the 2016-2017 season.

Money Quote:

“He has terrific feet, is an excellent shot stopper, and has a wonderful calmness and presence for a keeper of his age.” - Coach McIntyre

Pretty solid praise for a young man between the sticks. If Coach Mac is that high on him, the future in Orange is bright for him.

Twitterfeed: @JakeLeahy1

What Does the Coaching Staff Think?: Coach McIntyre seems high on Leahy, stating that "Jake came through our camp program, working with Coach Masalin, and he has all the tools to be an elite goalkeeper.” It may be a year or two until he sees the field, but he’s got some high praise off the bat.
