Rivalry: 31-30-5 Colgate (for real)
Current Streak: 15, Syracuse
First Meeting: You'll have to go all the way back to 1891 for the first time SU and Colgate got together. In a day when it wasn't unusual to see scores like 7-6 and 6-3, the Raiders won the first match 22-16 and would go on to win 12 of the first 16 in the series. A hole SU is still trying to dig out of.
Last Meeting: Delone Carter rattled off four touchdowns and Syracuse had possession for a mere 15 minutes the entire game but rolled to a 42-7 victory over the Gate in 2010.
Head Coaches: SU: Dino Babers (1st Year, 0-0), Colgate: Dan Hunt (3rd Year, 14-12)
Head Coach Bio: Hunt began his coaching career as an assistant at Springfield College (his alma mater) before coming to Colgate in 1995. He was an assistant lifer, coaching tight ends, running backs, and quarterbacks and eventually becoming associate head coach in 2010. He replaced longtime head coach Dick Biddle in before the 2014 season.
Curious Connections: Former Syracuse linebacker Siriki Diabate is the secondary coach for the Raiders. We interviewed him. You should read it.
Last Year: After a 5-7 start, Hunt turned Colgate around in his second season. The Raiders finished the season 9–5 (6–0) and won the Patriot League championship. They received an automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs and defeated New Hampshire in the first round and James Madison in the second round before losing in the quarterfinals to Sam Houston State.
Last Game: The aforementioned San Houston State defeat, a 48-21 loss.
"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds of Timelords": Via our Q&A with CFMC, they pointed out quarterback Jake Melville.
For Syracuse fans who do not know, Jake is the latest in our long line of dual-threat QBs. He went 193/351 for 2,552 yards, 11 TD, and two INTs while rushing 186 times for 1,073 yards and 11 TDs. If he puts up similar or better numbers this year while leading us to the playoffs then he will be in the conversation for sure.
If Syracuse Wins: Dino gets his first win as SU coach under his belt and the Orange do what they're supposed to do.
If Syracuse Loses: ABANDON SHIP!!!
Fun Fact: The last time Syracuse scored less than 40 points against Colgate was 1957, nine games ago.
