Name: Devon Clarke
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Freshman
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 186
Hometown: Kissimmee, Fla.
High School: Osceola
2015 Stats: Had two interceptions his senior year of high school, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
2016 Projections: Clarke could be lining up at free safety, which puts him behind junior Antwan Cody and redshirt junior Chauncey Scissum. He told Alicia DelGallo of the Orlando Sentinel:
Clarke said Syracuse's staff would like to see him play free safety, strong safety and Sam linebacker.
How'd He Get Here: According to Chris Hays of the Orlando Sentinel, assistant coach Nick Monroe was Clarke's main recruiter. Clarke almost didn't end up at Syracuse due to the Shafer coaching change and his grades, but both worked out eventually. He originally committed to the Oregon State Beavers in March of 2015 but decommitted in June.
What'd Recruiting Sites Say?: Three stars from everyone. Scout had him as high as the 20th-ranked safety in the state of Florida.
Money Quote: Clarke somehow doesn't think Syracuse is that cold, despite being from Florida.
"That was actually my first time seeing snow when I went up to Syracuse," Clarke said. "I thought it would be worse, but it wasn't that cold up there. It was 16 degrees but I didn't think it seemed that cold."
