Get to know your Orange man: No. 8, Steve Ishmael

How high is the ceiling for Syracuse’s number one wide receiver this season?

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Steve Ishmael

Position: Wide receiver

Year: Junior

Height: 6’ 2”

Weight: 210 lbs.

Hometown: Miami, Fla.

High School: North Miami Beach

2015 Stats: Led the team in receptions (39), receiving yards (570), and touchdown catches (7).

2016 Projections: The potential is there for Ishmael to have a fantastic season and maybe be a standout wide receiver in the ACC. The new offense should help his production. He really started firing at the end of last season, scoring a TD in six of the last eight games, so if that momentum carries over into this season, watch out. He could easily tally over 750 yards this year if all goes well.

How’d He Get Here?: Ishmael had a good list of offers, including Boston College, Louisville, Miami, Tennessee and West Virginia.

What’d The Recruiting Sites Say?: Three stars across the board.

Money Quote: Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com talked with Ishmael earlier this month:

“I feel like last year, I was a lot more wild on my technique," Ishmael said, "but this year, the coaches are really enforcing technique. They're doing a great job of enforcing the little things.”

Uhhh... so the coaches weren’t correcting it last season?

Links of Wonder: From Nate Mink with Syracuse.com: Ishmael chose his jersey number due to his admiration for former Syracuse player and NFL Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison

What’d The Coaching Staff Say?: Well, let’s reverse this, because Steve’s said a lot about Dino. Here’s a nice gem from this Syracuse.com article by Bud Poliquin:

I've got to respect the media's opinion because last year we didn't have a great season," he said Monday morning when asked of the tepid 2016 previews his bunch has so far generated. "But I love being the underdog. You come out and prove people wrong, just really humbling those people. We definitely have something to prove."
