Get to know your Orange: Men’s Soccer #20 Kamal Miller

The Canadian youth international is an integral piece of the Orange defense.

soccer

Name: Kamal Miller

Position: Left Centerback

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 185 lbs.

Hometown: Pickering, Ontario

High School: Blessed Mother Theresa

Club Team: Vaughan SC

2015 Stats: Miller tallied three goals on thirteen shots in his freshman campaign, including one game winner. He was also named to the RedNationOnline.com (Who tout themselves as Canada’s online soccer magazine) All-Canadian Team.

2016 Projections: Kamal will slot right back into his spot as the left centerback in Syracuse’s three at the back formation, alongside Louis Cross and Miles Robinson. He’s back to pick up where he left off last season as the incumbent starter and general stalwart at the back.

Of the backline, Miller has to be voted “most likely to see pushed forward,” and has been known to try and pick a release pass.

How'd He Get Here?: Most likely down I-81. Syracuse has a history of solidly recruiting Canada and Miller is no exception. He joins the like of Chris Nanco and Patrice Bernier off the top of my head, as solid Canadian contributors to the cause.

What Does the Coaching Staff Think?: The staff liked what they saw enough to start Miller as a freshman. He partners Louis Cross and USMNT U-20’er Miles Robinson back there. Overall it’s a pretty solid back line. Combined with Hendrik Hilpert, we should be very solid on defense.

Interesting Nugget O' Interest: Miller was called in and supposed to be capped by the Canadian U-20 national team this May in Costa Rica. Unfortunately, the camp was postponed due to a volcanic eruption. The U-20s were slated for a camp in Costa Rica as that will be the site for the U-20 World Championships in 2017.
