Continuing the trend of letting you folks meet the Syracuse Orange Men’s Soccer players, here’s our starting goalkeeper:

Name: Hendrik Hilpert

Position: Goalkeeper

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6’0"

Weight: 175lbs

Hometown: Eiterfeld, Germany

High School: IGS Wilhelm Bracke

Academy: TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

Club Team: Eintracht Braunschweig U19/U23

2015 Stats: Started final 16 games of 2016 for a 10-3-3 record. Hilpert recorded 6 clean sheets and 34 saves for a 0.78 GAA.

2016 Projections: Definitely the starter. He earned it with his performance last year and a run to the College Cup as a freshman. It’s his spot to lose and it doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere.

Having Hilpert and the rest of the defense returning should be a huge asset and great stability for a team that’s replacing some holes in front of them.

How'd He Get Here?: As mentioned earlier, Hilpert came through the TSG Hoffenheim academy and the Braunschweig youth system. He also played for the German U-17 squad a few years back.

Twitterfeed: Again, we’re missing out on potential Twitter action

Tweets of Wonder: Hilpert may not have Twitter, but his jersey is showing up on it, with Premier League champs Leicester City FC when they toured the SU complex.

What Does the Coaching Staff Think?:

"Hendrik is an experienced goalkeeper who has played at a very high level for several years, He is an athletic, modern keeper who commands his area very well.

Coach McIntyre on Hilpert when he was recruited. He’s lived up to the praise at this point. I’m sure Coach Masalin will have him in fine form for the coming season.

Interesting Nugget O' Interest: For our USMNT fans, it looks like Hilpert was a teammate at the Hoffenheim Academy with Russell Canouse and Zach Pfeffer, two American prospects that some of you may know.
