Capital One Cup Standings: Orange Men & Women Both Break Top Ten

The Syracuse men finish in 10th place, while the women finish tied for 4th.

The annual Capital One Cup scores are officially in and the Syracuse Orange should be pretty happy with where they rank. The men finished with 59 total points, which is good enough for 10th place. The women finished with 80 points which has them in a fourth place tie with the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Capital One Cup is awarded each year to the top Men's and Women's Division I programs in the country. Points are earned throughout the year based on how well a program finishes in the NCAA Championships and the final coach's polls. In one weeks time at the ESPY Awards, Capital One will award a combined $400,000 in student-athlete scholarships, as well as the Capital One Cup trophy to the winning schools. This year's winners are Stanford (Men's) and USC (Women's).

It's worth noting that the Orange jumped up 11 spots in the men's standings this year (finished 21st last year) and 13 spots in the women's standings (finished 17th last year). This is a positive sign that even with all the changes that have been made recently within the Syracuse Athletic Department, the teams are continuing to perform. Hopefully this upward trend will continue and the Orange will be able to cash in on that scholarship money.
